Ash Anwar

For Ash Anwar, curiosity has always been at the core of who he is. Raised in Montreal before spending most of his adult life in Vancouver, Anwar grew up fascinated by anything that explained the world around him. Shows like Bill Nye the Science Guy helped spark that interest early, planting the idea that science could be both fun and surprising.

Before joining Molecular You, Anwar studied biology, where he discovered he didn’t just enjoy learning new concepts, he also liked helping others understand them. That mix of curiosity and communication eventually led him into molecular science, a field focused on studying the tiny building blocks that influence health and disease.

“I’ve always loved anything that explains how the world works,” Anwar said. “That curiosity never really went away.”

At Molecular You, Anwar works in a form of health testing that goes far beyond what most people experience during a routine doctor’s visit. Typically, a standard blood test looks at one or two key markers. Molecular testing, however, examines hundreds of molecules in the blood at once and analyzes how they interact.

“What we do is look at all the molecules in your blood that affect health and disease,” Anwar explained. “Instead of focusing on just one or two things, we’re able to combine hundreds of datapoints to get a much clearer picture of what’s happening inside the body.”

This broader approach allows Molecular You to identify patterns that traditional testing may miss, helping clients better understand not only their current health, but also potential future risks.

“We see things you can’t catch with standard tests,” he said. “It gives you insight into where your health is now and where it might be heading.”

For Anwar, one of the most meaningful parts of his role is meeting directly with clients to walk through their results. Those conversations allow him to translate complex molecular data into information people can actually use.

“Helping someone understand what’s going on inside their own body is incredibly rewarding,” he said. “It can be a little nerve-wracking at times, but those conversations really matter.”

Working at Molecular You also means collaborating closely with researchers, partners, and leadership teams. Anwar describes teamwork as essential to good science. On any given day, his work may include reviewing research, analyzing data, meeting with directors, or coordinating with colleagues across departments.

“Good science rarely happens alone,” Anwar said. “Collaboration is a huge part of why I love what I do.”

After nearly 25 years in Vancouver, Anwar’s move to Calgary felt like a natural next step. Having visited often, he already admired the city’s energy and sense of growth. Today, he sees Molecular You as part of Calgary’s expanding scientific landscape.

Looking ahead, Anwar encourages young people interested in science to follow their curiosity rather than external pressures.

“Do what you want to do, not what someone else thinks you should,” he said. “The most important thing is choosing a path that makes you excited to wake up in the morning.”
